evening dress
Christian Dior, Paris 1947 - 1957
Summary
Sleeveless strapless black silk-georgette calf-length evening dress with short train; emerald green georgette sash attached as a waistband, pleated under the bust and with 2 long pendant ends falling to the right to the hem; boned bodice, opening to the front; woven label, black on white: Christian Dior, Paris, Autumne-Hiver 1952 and stamped 2439. In this classically pleated dress, Dior pays homage to the work of Madame Gres and Elsa Schiaparelli in the 1930s. This particular model was also chosen by the head of Dior in 2015, Raf Simons, as a focus for his collection. Dior chose classical pleating and draping for a number of models in 1952 - see L'Officiel n. 361 p.200 for another such evening dress with 'des drapes de la statuaire antique'.
