Summary
Black evening dress in Alencon silk lace, showing flamenco-style influence. Full length with tiered 'Spanish' hem and short train. Labelled Balenciaga Paris and 42425. and almost certainly SS 1952. Balenciag was most famed for his black lace creations, alluding to Flamenco costume and Spanish mantillas, and often including a train, short or long. He is often seen as the couturier's couturier and was cited as ‘the master of us all’ by Dior and ‘the only couturier in the trueist sense of the word’ by Chanel.
