Summary
Full length A-line maxi-dress or kaftan in applique wild silk: Prussian blue ground with appliqiue claret red front yoke, cuffs, hem and graduating circles from bust to hem; wide pagoda sleeves; shallow round neck; woven label: Balmain, Paris. This shows Balmain echoing ‘moderne’ couture and Scandinavian designers, such as Vuokko and Marimekko. Strikingly dramatic, it is redolent, almost, of an opera costume and is abstract art in itself.
