The Widow's Son

Frederic James Shields 1833 - 1911

Summary

A young man with dark curly hair crouches down to embrace a smaller female figure in a white robe. The male figure is depicted in profile with his left side facing the viewer. His well defined left arm is bare but he wears a dark blue robe over the rest of his body. His bare left foot can be seen bent behind him. His arm is extended and his left hand rests on the back of the female figure's right shoulder and her right arm stretches out over his, her hand resting on his bicep. The male figure gazes at the female, but she is looking away from him, with her head tilted back, turned slightly to the right and her eyes looking upwards. She has golden hair and piercing blue eyes.
