Summary

Public: Mug, made of soft paste porcelain, reeded loop handle, transfer-printed overglaze in brick red with garden scenes. Private: trace of removed circular paper label underside letter & fan & tower & architecture & rural landscape & garden landscape & autumn & spring Mug, baluster shape, slightly everted rim, reeded loop handle with heart shaped terminal, transfer-printed overglaze, exterior. The Letter depicts elegantly dressed man and woman walking, garden scene, she holds fan, man, on left, points to letter held in his right hand. Foreground, foliage, tree to left, distant right, round tower amongst trees. Autumn shows man and woman seated on bank amongst trees and foliage, he holds wine glass aloft, basket of fruit at their feet, woman crouches behind them. Spring depicts man and woman seated on bank, he dressed in Pierrot costume, she bedecked with flowers, behind, church spire top right, trees to left, rural landscape. Enamelled overglaze trefoil and spear border, red, rim, interlaced scroll and dot border, footring, interlaced scroll and diaper patterns, handle.
