Summary

A broad, rutted road runs through an area of deciduous forest, with open country visible in the distance. Tall trees on either side help to channel our gaze along the track, which is busy with people and dogs. Hobbema, who trained in Amsterdam with Jacob van Ruisdael, specialised in woodland views such as this. Although the subject matter of this panel is consistent with Hobbema, the sky is not, and it is likely to be a picture by an artist working in his style.
