A Suburban Landscape 1930s John Bold 1895 – 1979 oil on canvas John Bold painted this picture and the one below it. He was born in Moss Side, Manchester, and studied and taught at the Manchester School of Art. He was a friend of the painter L. S. Lowry. Here Bold paints a Manchester housing estate, limiting his palette and removing all people to produce a poetic painting of a prosaic subject. Edna Bold gift 1980.163
