William Batho
Summary
Portrait of William Batho, who held the post of Clerk of Manchester Art Gallery from 1897-1914 under the first curator William Stanfield. He was promoted to Assistant Curator in 1914 on the appointment of Lawrence Haward as Curator. He remained in post until his sudden death in 1937. Three quarter length portrait of Mr Batho wearing a light brown suit, shirt and green tie, sitting on an emerald green chair. The background is rather expressive and is represented with vertical strokes of colour in red, and dark grey.
