Summary

Three-quarter length self-portrait of a nude female standing in the sea. The subject is facing the viewer with both arms by her sides and head tilted to the left, downcast. The background is neutral with a blue/grey patch of colour at the bottom, depicting water. The melancholy picture shows a the artist from the top of her forehead down to her knees where she stands sumerged in the sea. The paintwork is dry and gestural, and some canvas is showing through in the sections where the paint is thinner.
