Summary

Public: Cream coloured earthenware tea service composed of a teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl, serving plate, cups, saucers and sideplates; organic asymmetrical forms, decorated with a brown print under an eggshell glaze with a stylised leaf pattern, with overglaze matt brown enamel sprayed on the rims and handles of the vessels. Private: Moulded cream earthenware tea service comprising one large plate, six smaller side plates, six cups and saucers, milk jug, sugar bowl, and teapot and lid. Freeform organic shapes: circular cups; plates and saucers are indented ovals with lips around half the edge of the body; oval teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl are all indented at one side; asymmetrical teapot lid with pinched knob; rounded angular loop handles on cups, teapot and milk jug. All but saucers and teapot lid are printed under an eggshell glaze with a brown 'Windswept' motif of three long flowing leaves loosely bound with a thread. Motif is horizontally placed on the teapot, sugar bowl, and milk jug but is upright on the cups. Matt brown enamel sprayed overglaze on cup handles, teapot lid, and lips of saucers and plates creating elongated crescent effect, and around half the mouth of the sugar bowl. Manufacturer's shape patterns: 2403 (cups and saucers) & 2404 (side plates) & 2405 (teapot) (others illegible) Design known as 'Windswept'
