Each year NHS Greater Manchester holds a Month of Hope from the 10th September World Suicide Prevention Day.
Textile Artists Rebecca Jackson and Sara Hindhaugh, will be running a crafting session to assist you in making an individual cloth Book of Hope.
Materials will be provided but you may wish to add a personal touch with fabric pieces, printed photos, buttons etc that mean something to you.
Rebecca and Sara were both involved in creating the Speak Their Name: Greater Manchester Suicide Memorial Quilt which was displayed at the gallery from the 10th September– 16th September 2022.
The quilt was made throughout lockdown, by people bereaved by suicide in memory of those lost to suicide across Greater Manchester and first unveiled at Manchester Art Gallery ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day 2020. It is made of 54 unique squares, each one lovingly created by someone bereaved by suicide. Lockdown restrictions meant that this powerful artwork couldn’t be seen by a large audience, so we are displaying the quilt again to raise awareness of the impact of suicide and the benefits of peer support and creative activities.
You can learn more about the story of the quilt and access advice and support on the Shining a Light on Suicide website.
