How can art, the gallery and Manchester’s public collection be used to support climate justice?
How can they help us understand history and shape the future?
The recently formed Manchester Art Gallery Climate Justice Group includes artists, activists and gallery staff. In this first of a series of public events we aim to introduce the group and share a range of responses and developing ideas for wider conversation.
Please join us for a ‘selection box’ of short presentations by group members:
Rabia Begum – artist, activist and member of Manchester Climate Change Youth Board
Janet Boston – Curator: Craft and Design, Manchester Art Gallery
Kooj Chuhan – digital artist, filmmaker, activist and director of Crossing Footprints
Clare Gannaway – Curator: Contemporary Art, Manchester Art Gallery
Emma Greenwood – Youth Strike 4 Climate Manchester
Jackie Haynes – artist, researcher, writer and Terrace Square Artist Project (TSAP@Platt Hall) art.tsap.uk
Jane Lawson – artist and fungus enthusiast
Adam Peirce – core group member of Climate Emergency Manchester
Hannah Williamson – Curator: Fine Art, Manchester Art Gallery
Emmanuela Yogolelo – singer-songwriter, music facilitator, cultural leader and producer
The group dedicate this event to the memory of Manchester climate justice activist Deyika Nzeribe.
