Composer Eve Harrison, choreographer Ruth Jones, independent professional dancers and musicians from Manchester Collective, Vonnegut Collective and Sounds of the Engine House join creative forces to find a common language in a time of in between.
Manchester Art Gallery
Sunday 12 May 2019, 10am–4.30pm
Nearly every person must have felt they were the odd one out, sticking out, stuck in between conformity at some point. Through exploring and celebrating moments of transition, near-unisons, pauses, glances, timbre, resonances and ideas that happen in between the traditional main event of their art forms, composer Eve Harrison and choreographer Ruth Jones will create an honest collaborative language and means of expression which heightens their ability to communicate with an audience and nurtures what is so often skimmed over, both in society and in artistic collaboration.
Often cross-art collaborations are rushed and means of creative language never quite understood. By taking movement as a starting point for compositional gesture and using musical gestures to create movement as the foundation of their work, the artists will find how to express subtle and human moments of ‘in between’. With the understanding that there are many ways of communicating the same thing, the artists will endeavour to allow audiences to experience their work in aural and visual forms, separately and then together. Being based at Manchester Art Gallery amongst paintings by Lowry and Valette , visual art and its setting will also provide stimuli for the collaborative artists to investigate the notion of in between.
This research and development stage of in between is kindly funded by Help Musicians UK through their Fusion Fund.
Visitors are welcome to watch with opportunities to share thoughts. There will be a group sharing time at 4 p.m. For more information, please contact Ruth Edson 0161 235 8877.
