The Footlights

John Copley 1875 - 1950

Summary

A theatre stage viewed from the wings on the right of the stage. On stage a line of dancers are doing the same routine. One figure stands slightly forwards of them and faces the back of the stage, or the right of the composition. Just to the right of centre a dark curtain hangs vertically, and to the right of this two women in dresses are seated in the foreground. Behind these women a man in a bowler hat stands watching the stage from behind the curtain. Towards the left edge a light operator in the foreground focuses a light on the action on stage, and a man in costume waits.
