After the oil painting 'A Child's Portrait in Different Views: Angel's Heads' 1786-7 now in the Tate collection. It shows the head of Lady Frances Gordon (Miss Frances Isabella Keir Gordon) aged five from five different angles. In order to elevate the genre of portraiture, Reynolds borrowed motifs and styles from some of the most admired art of the past. Here, Reynolds took the idea from 17th century Italian painting. Lady Frances Gordon was the only child of Lord William Gordon and his wife Frances Ingram-Shepherd.
