Display Label

Windmill and Lock 1811 Joseph Mallord William Turner 1775-1851 Etching This print is a proff of Turner's etched outlines for a plate from his Liber Studiorum series, published 1807-1819. Turner etched the outlines for nearly all the plates which were then passed on to mexxotint engravers. The plate has been wiped clean of any plate tone and there is no sense that this is a finished work. A range of acid biting can be seen in the lines; the dark lines of the foreground indicate a longer bite. Transferred 1982.103
