A Lavatory

John Copley 1875 - 1950

Summary

A crowded and busy scene in a men's lavatory. The room recesses towards the left of the picture plane where the entrance to the room is. From this corner men are seen arriving wearing long black coats and black top hats. There are mirrors on either side of the room, and a row of sinks is positioned on the right wall. The men in front of these have shirts and waistcoats on and have their backs to the viewer. On the left is a narrow table with brushes where only one man stands in a long black coat, brushing his hair. Two harried looking men in the middle of the room - one wearing a green waistcoat and a red tie, and the other in a white coat - appear to be assisting the other men in the room. This work is printed in seven colours.
