Summary

Beige paper, printed in five vertical sections. central section contains an oval reserve printed in colour with a bust portrait of a gipsy-girl with a hand of cards. The sections, two either side, have the suits of cards - spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs with their meanings (for fortune telling) alongside. No publisher's or printer's name. Edged in silver paper. Leaf is printed : "The New Gipsey Fan" and above "The Art of Fortune-Telling by Cards" and followed by instructions. Sticks are carved bone, with rounded shoulders. No decoration. Guards similar, with square ends. Fixed rivet iwth bone washer. Part of the Moorcroft donation and No. 119 in the Moorcroft Catalogue. Purchased by donor's sister on 10.7.51 in Leeds. See No.58 in the British Museum 1893 Catalogue of the Lady Charlotte Schreiber. This fan was published by D Kerr, London.
