Summary

Public: Bowl, white earthenware, decorated with fruits, leaves and Celtic inscribed border, all in silver lustre over a lustrous green glaze, dark cobalt blue glaze in the well. Private: Finely potted, tapered circular bowl on narrow footring. Decorated with a dark cobalt blue glaze, interior sides then given a silver lustre wash, greenish in colour over the blue ground. Painted over this in silver lustre, a thick border of six broad leaves and six circular fruits, growing from continuous stem. In narrow border above, Celtic script inscription reads 'CELARE.ARTEM.ARS.EST'. Well left a deep dark blue. Exterior sides also given silver lustre wash, narrow border round rim reserved in streaky cobalt blue and picked out with silver border motifs. Greenish lustre wash below is streaked and contains a finger-print mark on one side. shape : 3000 range : Lancastrian
