Summary

Public: Baluster jar with domed cover, white earthenware, decorated with six pine cones on tall stems surrounded by interlacing foliage, in silver lustre over a green and mauve glaze. Lid decorated with a thistle. Private: Slender baluster jar with swollen shoulder tapering to flared foot, narrow neck with flared rim, high domed cover with pointed finial. Decorated with a curdled milky mauve glaze with a pale green milky streak down one side. Painted round shoulder in silver lustre with six stylised pine cones, each on long feathery stems rising from foot. Cones surrounded by interlacing Celtic style foliage emerging from the base of each cone and curving upwards, scrolled interlacing foliage at base of each stem. Silver lustre is a bright gold down one side of vase, turning dark brown on four of the six cones. Collar of diagonal stripes and spots in lustre round neck, cover decorated with browned lustre scale pattern with blackened lustre finial. Mauve glaze has stained green in areas immediately surrounding lustre. shape : 3093 range : Royal Lancastrian
