Summary

Silk sarsanette, with a central vignette painted with a family group. Man in blue with a purple cape twining flowers in his seated wife's hair, whilst she watches their children playing with more flowers. Set in garden landscape. Flanked by two smaller vigenettes of doves and torches. Embroidered all over with gold sequins and coloured spangles. Face splitting along each stick. Reverse is paper printed with a black and white engraving of a girl seated at a window, playing a lyre. Sticks have three cartouches with figures and borders inlaid with silver. Guards show a boy in 18th century dress. Metal rivet set with paste. Part of the Moorcroft donation and No. 13 in the Moorcroft Catalogue. Purchased by donor on 14.6.35 at the Caledonian Market for 9s0d.
