Summary
White twill linen hanging, coverlet or bed curtain, embroidered with blue-green wool in 2 different shades. Seam centre front. Stitches: chain, stem, fishbone, satin, cross and buttonhole. Pattern: curling feathers. Feathers were occasionally used as a design for embroidering furnishing textiles, but very rarely for costume (see the 1650s bodice 2004.96) Subject of an article in the 3rd issue of "The Embroideress" by the editor Mrs ME Rolleston (mid 1920s) see Joan Edwards "Crewel Embroidery in England" -pp. 71,77,78.
