Summary

Public: Ovoid jug with cylindrical neck and inset lip, white earthenware with pearlware glaze, transfer-printed in overglaze red with portraits of Admiral Nelson, with red enamel and metallic silver lustre details. Private: Ovoid jug tapering to foot, with cylindrical neck, inset lip and loop handle with outer spur at thumbrest. White earthenware with a pearlware glaze, transfer-printed in overglaze red on either side with medallion containing half-length portrait of Admiral Nelson against background of ships at sea, with flags, weapons and scrolls below inscribed 'NILE', 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON', 'VICTORY', TRAFALGAR', scroll above inscribed 'ENGLAND / EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL / DO HIS DUTY'. Medallion contained within plain metallic silver lustre outline, with silver band above foot and flowerhead motif beneath lip. Neck painted in red enamel and silver with looped budding border, neckrim, lip and handle edged in silver. Glaze finely crazed.
