Subject is wearing a black jacket with shoulder epaulettes, a silk sash across the chest with brooch and chain, seven medals attached to the left breast, and looped decoration down the front centre. Also wearing black trousers, black leather shoes, and is holding a sword in left hand. Hanging from the balustrade is a black satchel with leather strap, and sitting on the balustrade at the left is a flat top hat with standing black feather. Written in pencil on back "William Fyers / A Rifle Regiment"
