Public: Teabowl and saucer, soft paste porcelain, "pencilled" decoration, painted with a very fine brush, enamelled overglaze with Oriental scene. Private: Teabowl : slightly tapered footring, gently everted rim. Pencilled, enamelled overglaze, black, scene around exterior of bowl, shows Chinaman riding buffalo facing riverbank, in Oriental landscape. He raises whip in right hand. Left, tree with spreading branches, roofs shown behind bank, further round bowl bird in sky, rock and plants. Two cross hatched boats (junks) with tall masts on river. Inside well, leaf and flower pattern. Saucer : shallow footring, gently everted rim, pencilled, enamelled overglaze, black, with similar scene to bowl. Chinaman sits on buffalo facing towards river, Oriental landscape, he raises whip in right hand, two boats on river, tree to right, branches spread to underside of rim, behind, low buildings. To left, bird in sky, rock with plants.
