Summary

Trimmed black silk ribbon and metal braid round crown, flattened at sides with crease in top from back to front, narrow black corded silk band fastening with metal buckle to left of back, wide shaped brim, turned back each side, parallel with and extending above brim, and bound black figured silk ribbon, right half of brim curving in at back and front and trimmed black watered silk ribbon at back and front, and towards front with black watered silk ribbon rosette under metal braid loop, coiled metal thread tassel resting on brim at back and front, connected by red silk and silver thread cord passing from back to front, crown lined cream twilled silk and leather band. printed label: "Chapman, Old Bond Street, London". Worn by a descendant of Thomas Carill-Worsley (1739-1808), who lived at Platt Hall 1764-1808
