Summary

Public: Ovoid jug with cylindrical neck and acanthus-moulded lip, buff earthenware, painted in metallic purple lustre and green overglaze enamel with cottage scenes and dated inscription. Private: Ovoid jug with cylindrical neck, inset acanthus-moulded lip and ribbed strap loop handle with slight spur at thumbrest. Sides to left and right of handle painted in metallic purple lustre with rural landscapes comprising cottage amongst trees to right of handle, large country house to left. Side opposite handle inscribed 'James & Margret / Beard / 1815' between leafy sprigs. Neck, lip and handle thumbrest picked out with narrow purple lustre bands, heavier band to neckrim. Finely crazed glaze.
