Summary
Dress and bolero jacket from YSL's important first collection for Dior, the Trapeze line. Fine wool sleeveless dress in steel grey with widely pleated. very full, knee length skirt with 3 integral full tulle petticoats; matching short jacket with short sleeves, breast pockets and 5 buttons centre front; lined grey crepe, woven label 'Christian Dior, Paris, Printemps/Ete 1958' and indistinctly numbered . A fine example of the couture workshop, almost entirely handsewn. Ensemble from St Laurent's first celebrated 'Trapeze line' collection for Dior, months after Christian Dior's sudden death. YSL's first collection was greeted with rapture by Dior clientele and press alike, the latter declaring that 'St Laurent has saved Dior and saved France'.
