Volunteer with us
We are looking for Creative Families ‘Lion’s Den’ Volunteers to join our team.
The Creative Families Space at Manchester Art Gallery is a space for families to spend time being creative together and includes a range of activities including dressing up, table tennis building blocks and drawing.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to maintain and supervise the Lion’s Den – our family gallery space and to work with family visitors, children and adults, to support creativity and play during their visit.
Volunteers will talk to families and visitors of all ages and cultural backgrounds and will gain a broad understanding of Family Learning in museums and galleries as well as gaining knowledge and awareness of how the Gallery helps family visitors to access its collections and displays.
The role will include setting up materials and tidying up at the end of the session.
There are regular weekly shifts of 2.5 hours and there is also the opportunity to sign up for shifts that have a particular focus including
– Artist weekend workshops
– Baby Stay and Play
– Open Doors, our session for children with autism and their families
– Holiday activities
After an induction session, volunteers will be able to sign up for sessions that suit them.
Travel expenses paid up to £7 per day, 10% off in the gallery shop and café. The opportunity to build confidence and increase awareness of how the Gallery works with families. We provide access to training and social events for all of our volunteers.
Enthusiasm for the arts, gallery education and working with children and families to enhance their visits. We are looking for friendly and welcoming volunteers with good communication and interpersonal skills who are able to work independently and be self motivated and confident to approach and talk to visitors.
