Two Women

Pablo Picasso 1881 - 1973

Summary

Seated in the centre of this interior scene are two nude women with their long hair unbound. The woman closest to the viewer is seen in profile as she faces the right. Her left leg is crossed over her right leg and she rests her left elbow on her raised knee. Whilst her right arm rests at her side her left arm is raised and she touches her lips with her left hand. The second woman faces the viewer but she does not look directly forwards, instead her head is slightly turned to the left as she looks at the other woman. She is also sitting with her legs crossed, her right leg is tucked under her bent left leg and she too, rests her left arm on her knee. Around them there are few other details, they are clearly seated on some furniture but apart from this the interior is empty. On the walls there is an ornate leaf pattern but this is hatched over with the loose, free line-work that characterises this print.
