Poplars
Summary
This landscape is dominated by the v-shaped line of poplars that spreads across the middle ground of the scene; the rest of the landscape has minimal details apart from the fields in the distance and a few bushes. The peak of the v is just right of the centre and from this the trees run evenly spaced out to the left and are quite shadowed, whilst to the right they seem to curve back into the distance and slightly behind the other trees before following the horizon line out to the right. The poplars to the right are less shadowed as the sun seems to be falling from the right. Just before the trees, in the foreground there seems to be a pathway that follows the line of the trees but also branches out of the bottom right hand corner. This is one of two impressions of this print - see 1928.367 b. It is of the landscape of France where Raverat lived in Vence, near Nice, in the south of France from 1915-1925. It is one of the many subjects she worked on out-of-doors.
