The Spring in the Woods

The Spring in the Woods

Summary

The sketchy, loose rendering in the print suits the scene as it creates the dappled effect of light falling through leaves and it evokes rich, dense vegetation. In the centre of the composition in the foreground there appears to be a clearing, and it is here that a nude female figure is seen, standing out against the surrounding greenery. She is depicted lying on her right side and leaning on her elbows with her curly hair loose and falling over her shoulders. Rather than looking towards the viewer her her head is turned away as she looks back into the forest behind.
