highland costume comprising jacket and waistcoat/kilt and sporran. Black wool jacket; SB with turn-down collar and revers and fastening cf with a single square silver metal button; long sleeves with 3 buttons and braiding; flapped side pockets also with 3 buttons and braiding; breast pocket; black cord epaulettes with single buttons; cb seam; side seams with tiny vents; lined black sateen with inner pocket and woven label "R W Forsyth Ltd, Edinburgh and Glasgow". Kilt with waistcoat attached; button-over black watch tartan wool kilt in green, black and yellow; flat front and kilted back; attached black sateen waistcoat with 3 buttons cf satmped "R W Forsyth Ltd"; lined white cotton twill with woven label. Sporran of dark brown leather with silver top (like a handbag top) chased and engraved; cream hair front with 2 pendant black hair tassels; back stamped "R W Forsyth" 7 spare buttons. Worn in 1917 for first day at Birkenhead Prep.by Richard Green (donor; born 1911)
