Ceiling Design
Pompeo Aldrovandini 1677 - 1735
Summary
Study drawing of the corner of a ceiling decoration. The design is highly decorative with an oval surrounded by cherubs at the centre. Figures can be seen looking over balconies to each side; horizontal to the right and vertical to the left. The dome of the ceiling can be seen to the upper right. There are decorative borders along the ceiling decoration. Pompeo Aldrovandini was one of a family who specialised in 'quadratura' (illusionistic) painting. His most celebrated work was four ceilings in association with Aurelio Milani in Palazzo Doria Pamphilij, Rome.
