Static Portraits (Momo, Mary Ellen, Peter)
Summary
Set of three Polaroids. Mona Hatoum's 'Static Portraits' series was made at Yale University during a week long temporary teaching assignment with the Fine Art Department. Each student was asked to place their hand on a Van der Graf generator, creating a static response in their hair. Hatoum reveals the role of chance and variation in the act of repetition. She used a large scale Polaroid camera for this project. As there is no negative, this makes each print unique.
