Summary

Navy serge trousers and removable cotton lining attached with buttons. Fronts cut wide over hip and shaped for waist, with darts at side front; back with two top sections 15cm wide fastening at centre back with two buttons, lower back sections fastening onto this with three buttons; gathered at calf into 10cm knitted panel. The garment belonged to Heather Firbank (1888-1954), the daughter of the affluent MP, Sir Thomas Firbank. This outfit came to the Gallery via the Victoria and Albert Museum, which has many others of her dresses.
