Summary

Pale blue wool, woven with a narrow rib resembling stockingette; fly fastening with 6 dark metal buttons; similar buttons at waist, side pockets and inside hem; cut higher at back waist with buttons for braces; waistband faced with woven striped silk; very little worn but wool discoloured. Worn by Mr Thomas Worthington (1779-1842, a Manchester merchant) or his son, Samuel Barton, 1820-1915, a railway engineer) in Manchester, England between 1840-1850.
