fan
Summary
Full leaf print of a formal garden, with a central classical arcade, and castle, and a bridge over a lake in the distance. A carriage with three pairs of horses draws up whilst there are ten promanading figures, mostly in pairs. The print is overpainted with a brown wash for the foreground, blue for the path, and two tones of green for the foliage. The figures are in blue, pink, and red, and have a 'chinoiserie' influence. Reverse is lined with plain white paper. Sticks are very slender carved bone. Painted with a spray of flowers in pink and blue. Similar motifs on guards. Chinese influence is obvious. Crude brass rivet with ivory washers (too large for the guards).
