shawl
Summary
Crocheted orange double knit acrylic shawl. Hand crocheted triangular shawl, in large, loose stitches. Plain square pattern in centre, with border along two short edges, slightly fluted with floral pattern, terminating in a long fringe. Made by donor, who wore it in her early twenties, as a trainee drama teacher at Bretton Hall College of Education. She learned crochet while teaching English at Haneenlinna, Finland, from an American student of weaving, Babara Campinelli of New York. Crochet was very fashionable in the early 70's, and donor also made shawls, blets and crochet ponchos for friends and relations.
