Tan panne velvet; waist finished with white Petersham ribbon which turns down inside. Side fastens with nylon zip. Purchased by the donor when in Lower 6th form at John Mason's Factory Shop in Leek, Staffs, for 5p. a group of 6th form girls were doing a dance routine at a school disco, and they all bought these hotpants as a uniform, because they were cheap and flashy. at the time, they were just going out of fashion. Masons make cheap lingerie and knitwear. Donor was later told, by the manager, that garments like these hotpants, or baby doll nighties, would be made up by the workers out of scraps in slack periods, to be sold in the shop. Evidently they misjudged the fashion and were left with a huge surplus of these.
