Summary

Cream silk embroidered in coloured silks and chenille and mounted on linen showing map of England and Wales, including the coastlines of Ireland and France a compass pointer, scale of miles and longitude and latitude lines and coat of arms. 'A Map of England and Wales' and 'Hannah Maria Walklett aged 12 years 1819' embroidered on sillk. Drapery, flowers and sprays embroidered on silk. Worked at Mme. Broadbent's Academy, Broadshaw St., Shude Hill, Manchester, by Hannah Maria Walklett, and forty or more years later given by her to a neighbour's child, from whom it was acquired by W.E.A Axon and J. Lupton for the Museum of the Old Manchester Committee; see information filed under W.E.A. Axon.
