Summary

Public: An oblong box with splayed sides and a hinged lid within a deep metal mount. Enamel on metal and painted in colours over transfer prints in red with six classical landscape scenes on the lid, sides and bottom on a white ground. Private: An oblong box with splayed sides and a hinged lid within a deep metal mount. Enamel on metal and painted in colours over a print in red on the lid with a figure beside an urn, pedestal and ruinous column looking out to sailing ships in port. The sides and bottom are decorated with five similar scenes of classical landscapes and at each corner with scrollwork decoration direct on a white ground.
