Evening: Lake of Lucerne
Charles Oppenheimer 1875 - 1961
Summary
Calm view across the lake at Lucerne, Switzerland, looking towards distant sunlit mountains covered in snow. Painted from near Drei Linden in the early spring when the winter snow still lies heavily on the mountains to the south-east. This is a minimal painting with only very few colours used, and simplistic mountain shapes represented. This technique reinforces the quiet tone of the landscape. Mist hangs across the mountain tops which skirts the bottom of the painting.
