Summary
Public: Barrel-shaped mug, buff earthenware, coated with a dark red slip and decorated with sgraffito patterns and dated inscription, beneath a lead glaze. Private: Thrown barrel-shaped mug tapering to everted neck rim, with bands of narrow turned ridges at foot and below neck. Strap loop handle with single thumb impression to lower terminal, finely turned and finished base. Body coated with a dark red slip revealing buff body in turned ridges, incised opposite handle with rectangular panel comprised of two vertical bands of diamond diaper connected by horizontal band of semi-circular loops below and the turned neck ridges above. Date 1733 incised within panel. Warm lead glaze giving a rich dark brown and yellow finish.
