Public: Oval sauce boat on an oval foot with an undulating rim and tapering lip and a strap loop handle. White, salt-glazed stoneware body decorated in relief on both sides with two panels of curved fluting separated with wavy and Greek key borders with a band of birds and animals beneath neckrim. Brown colouring to side of foot and crazed patches around rim. Private: Oval sauce boat on spreading oval foot, flattened and pointed toward lip end, with relief-moulded fluted border enclosed by narrow ribbed and Greek key borders. Fine slip-cast body with shaped undulating rim and deep tapering lip, applied ribbed strap loop handle with rolled spur at lower terminal. Each side of sauce boat decorated in relief with two panels of curved fluting separated by narrow panel of textured diamond ground, above narrow wavy and Greek key borders. Wide band of fantastic birds and animals beneath neckrim, differing slightly on either side. From right of handle; bird in a tree, leaping lion(?) beneath flying bird, spoonbill beneath a tree, monkey on a branch. From left of handle; bird in a tree, lion with wavy tail, repeated bird in a tree, monkey on a branch. Underside of lip decorated with two panels of outward curving flutes. White body with brown colouring to side of foot, and crazed patches around rim suggesting sauce boat was dipped in white slip.
