Summary

Public: Shaped oval sauce boat on three mask-and-paw feet, white salt-glazed stoneware, with relief decoration of pecten shells, scrolls and foliage picked out in cobalt blue. Private: Oval sauce boat with curved base on three paw feet, each foot topped by high relief grinning mask. Fine slip-cast body with shaped undulating rim and broad projecting lip, applied ribbed strap loop handle with folded spur at lower terminal. Lower body of sauce boat decorated in relief with three panels of elaborate scrolls and pecten shells between feet, hindmost foot beneath handle flanked by two snails. Surmounting this, band of different pecten shell-based motifs, alternating with sprays of oak leaves and acorns, two snails positioned beneath lip. Relief decoration ornamented with scattered daubs of cobalt blue. Greyish-white body.
