Summary

Public: Straight-sided cylindrical teapot with shaped spout and handle. White salt-glazed stoneware, painted in overglaze enamels with floral sprays on a turquoise-blue ground. Private: Circular cylindrical teapot on recessed circular foot, with tapering angled base and shoulder, ear-shaped handle with pointed thumb rest and scrolling terminals, and scallop-shaped spout of diamond section. Body painted in overglaze enamels on each side with large pink rose on leafy stem, against uneven turquoise-blue enamel ground added later, four leafy pink and green rosebuds scattered around shoulder. Spout and handle painted with turquoise-blue enamel which has crawled in places revealing white body beneath. Flattened circular cover with flowerhead finial, painted with large pink rose on leafy stem against blue ground. Small pierced hole to side of finial. Believed by Mr Jonathan Horne of Sampson & Horne Antiques to be of a rare shape and colour and the lid knob has been replaced (2009).
