Summary

Paper leaf edged with gilt paper at top and bottom, and painted with a scene of a woman turning her back on a man, both with pseudo-18th century costume. Several cupids, 1 crying. Name "Alice" enclosed in scrollwork. Mother of pearl sticks and guards painted with apple blossom and scrolls in pink and gilt, with some piercing. Bird on 1 guard. This subject, ie 'a lovers tiff', sometimes known as 'a rift within the lute', seems to have been very popular c.1890-1900
