Summary

Cream poplin trimmed with lace and braid. Lined with cream cotton satin. High round neck with standing band fastening hook and bar. Square yoke in one section each side of centre fastening two hooks and bars. Skirt fronts to side back each in one shaped section. Box pleat at sides with five large pearl buttons. Five extra buttons give doublebreasted effect. Square yoke at back in one section each side of centre seam. Skirt in two straight sections with inverted box pleat each side of centre. Long sleeves. Lining in two shaped sections. Full sleeve to below elbow in one section gathered at shoulder and into fitted cuff at lower edge. Trimming above hem of insertion between coiled braid, band of embroidered leaves and flowers round wrist edges. Separate cape collar. High round nec, pointed turn-down collar attached to narrow band fastening hook and bar. Cape in single sexagonal section. Front opening in centre of one side. Frill of white cotton lace gathered onto lower edges. Band of embroidered leaves and flowers round edge of collar and cape. Made for donor by mother c. 1900 by her mother from her wedding dress (1897).
