Summary
Public: Globular teapot with leaf-moulded handle and spout, cream coloured earthenware, with relief-moulded decoration of six Chinese figures in arched panels, decorated with green, brown and yellow coloured lead glaze. Private: Globular teapot on circular footring, with slight collar at neck, elaborate leaf-moulded S-shaped spout, and loop handle with arched leaf moulding at thumbrest and outward spur at lower terminal. Cream coloured body relief-moulded around sides with six arched panels, each panel containing Chinese figure standing against simple concentric Greek key ground. Figures comprise, from right of handle; figure with a bird perched on left hand; figure with a small parasol in right hand; figure with a staff resting over one shoulder; three figures repeated in same order to right of spout. Each arch topped with fringed canopy, spandrels between arches filled with alternating diamond diaper and bamboo grounds. Predominantly green coloured lead-glaze reserving panels in white with manganese brown and yellow touches to figures and fringed canopies. Flattened circular cover with flowerhead finial, moulded with three cartouches of diamond ground against background of bamboo, cartouches picked out in brown and and yellow, bamboo in green, finial in brown.
